Dental implants

To lose a friend or to lose a tooth – these losses are incomparable. When a friend is irreplaceable, then a tooth can be replaced by an implant. Dental implants substitute your teeth and look like your own.

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements that substitute your teeth which were lost due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Dental implants are an ideal option not only for people who have become the victims of tooth decay, root canal failure, periodontitis, trauma of the mouth, excessive wear and tear or congenital defects, but also for those who are not satisfied with their own teeth and have decided to change them to the new ones. There is a big number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, but none of them has demonstrated themselves as functionally effective and durable as implants. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support.

Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling, that you may forget you ever lost a tooth. Dental implants can replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth, support a bridge and reduce the need for a removable partial denture and even supply a denture, making it more secure and comfortable. There are two types of the implants that are used today: endosteal (in the bone) and subperiosteal (on the bone). Endosteal implants are the most commonly used type of implants. Depending on your specific condition and the type of implant chosen, your periodontist will generate a treatment plan customized exactly to your needs. While being an easy affair, the treatment may differ in its character. It depends on the quantity of teeth you decide to replace: one, several or all.

Modern dental implants are hardly distinguished from the native teeth. Implants are normally placed in a single sitting but require a period of osseointegration. Osseointegration is the process by which direct port of a dental implant root and the bone of the jaw occurs. An osseointegrated implant takes anywhere from three to six months to attach and heal, at which point your dentist can complete the procedure with the placement of a crown. Once the implant has anchored with the jawbone, artificial prosthesis may be attached and the process is done. If osseointegration does not occur, the implant will fail.

Dental implants are among the most successful procedures in dentistry. But you should remember that dental implants are like your own teeth and need oral care and regular dental visits. In order to keep your implant clean and in good physical shape, brushing and flossing still apply. Periodic follow-up visits will be programmed to supervise your implant, teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy. In case of positive decision upon the dental implants it would be reasonable to consult your dentist or Health & Tourism, LLC in Latvia which will provide all necessary information about this type of teeth treatment and advice the proper program to restore your teeth.
